  • Hind Rajab Foundation files criminal complaint in the US against former 'Israeli' soldier Adi Karni over alleged war crimes and genocide in Gaza.
  • Complaint coincides with Karni’s visit to Boston University, which sparked campus protests.

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a criminal complaint in the United States against Adi Karni, a former sergeant in the 'Israeli' military’s 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion. The complaint calls for a federal investigation into alleged war crimes and acts amounting to genocide during his service in the Gaza Strip.

The filing coincided with Karni’s visit to Boston, where he was invited by "BU Students for 'Israel'" to speak at Boston University on Wednesday evening. The event drew significant campus protests, with demonstrators gathering outside the Howard Thurman Center, chanting and carrying signs to oppose his appearance.

Allegations against Karni

The HRF complaint is supported by an investigative report including audiovisual evidence, some reportedly posted by Karni himself on social media. Allegations include:

  • Destruction of civilian infrastructure: Participation in controlled demolitions of residential neighborhoods and schools.
Targeting religious sites: Involvement in the destruction of mosques and other protected structures.
  • Public statements: Comments made after deployment, including claims that “there are no civilians in Gaza,” cited as evidence of intent to commit war crimes.

International legal pressure

The US complaint is part of a broader strategy by the HRF to pursue legal action against 'Israeli' personnel globally. Karni is already under investigation in Peru, where authorities invoked jurisdiction due to his Peruvian citizenship to examine alleged crimes committed abroad.

“If individuals already under investigation for genocide abroad can enter the US and speak publicly without scrutiny, then the law is rendered meaningless,” said Jake Romm, HRF representative.
