Death toll in overnight 'Israeli' Gaza strikes rises to 18: Reports

At least 18 Palestinians were killed in Gaza overnight, according to local hospitals cited by Palestinian media.

The majority of the victims, 11 people, were reported in Gaza City.

The 'Israeli' military claimed its forces carried out tank and air strikes in response to an attack by gunmen targeting 'Israeli' troops in northern Gaza. A reservist officer was seriously wounded during the confrontation, the army added.

Local hospitals continue to treat dozens of injured civilians, while authorities call for restraint to prevent further escalation.

Rafah crossing closed for today

The Israeli Occupation Forces also canceled the coordination for patients traveling from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah land crossing on Wednesday, just two days after it was reopened.

A spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent said, “We were informed that patient and wounded travel coordination through Rafah has been canceled today.”

The cancellation came despite preparations for a new batch of patients to depart the Strip. Some of those stranded returned to Gaza late Tuesday night.

Reservist reportedly seriously wounded

Earlier on Wednesday, the 'Israeli' army claimed that a reservist officer was seriously wounded by gunfire from northern Gaza.

According to an army statement, the incident occurred “overnight, during operational activity by troops of the Alexandroni Brigade (3) in the Yellow Line area north of the Gaza Strip,” with the army alleging that “militants fired toward an IDF force.”
