US Central Command has reiterated that its current focus is on protecting American forces and interests in the region. A spokesperson said troops are positioned to safeguard personnel and are prepared to carry out any mission as needed.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, the spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is conducting routine operations and highlighted recent efforts to increase pressure on Daesh to prevent its resurgence.

Regarding Iranian activity, the spokesperson stated that an Iranian drone approached the carrier aggressively, prompting US forces to shoot it down.

“We do not hesitate to protect our forces,” the spokesperson told Al Jazeera, adding that there is no reason for any Iranian drone to approach US forces.

"Our aircraft carrier was operating 500 nautical miles off the Iranian coast," and stressed, "We will never hesitate to respond if our vessels are threatened."
