US Central Command announced it conducted five strikes against multiple Daesh targets across Syria between January 27 and February 2, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent the group’s resurgence.

CENTCOM said the strikes destroyed a Daesh communications site, a critical logistics node, and several weapons storage facilities. The operations involved 50 precision-guided munitions delivered by fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial systems.

“Striking these targets demonstrates our continued focus and resolve to prevent a Daesh resurgence in Syria,” CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said. He added that the operations were carried out in coordination with coalition and partner forces to ensure what he described as the group’s enduring defeat.

The strikes were conducted under Operation Hawkeye Strike, launched in response to a December 13 ambush near Palmyra that killed two US service members and an American interpreter during an attack on US and partner forces.

CENTCOM said that since the start of the operation nearly two months ago, more than 50 Daesh members have been killed or captured. Among those killed was Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, a Daesh leader targeted in a deliberate strike in northwest Syria on January 16. According to CENTCOM, al-Jasim was directly linked to the gunman responsible for the December attack in Palmyra.

US officials say operations against Daesh will continue alongside regional partners as part of broader efforts to maintain security in Syria and the wider region.
