‘Israeli’ security services announced on Thursday the arrest of two ‘Israelis’ in their twenties on suspicion of collaborating with Iranian intelligence agencies.
In a statement, the security bodies said the two suspects are from the Jerusalem area and were in contact with Iranian operatives.
They allegedly carried out security-related tasks in exchange for money, with full knowledge of the identity of those directing them. The statement added that the detainees have been transferred to the judiciary ahead of what it described as “serious indictments.”
Authorities said the case is part of what they described as repeated Iranian attempts to recruit ‘Israeli’ citizens to carry out operations inside ‘Israel.’
The news website Walla reported that the arrests were carried out last month by ‘Israeli’ security services, but publication of the case was only permitted on Thursday after approval by a Jerusalem magistrate’s court.
According to the report, investigators suspect the two men carried out espionage activities for Iran in return for financial payments transferred through electronic wallets.
In recent months, ‘Israel’ has repeatedly announced the arrest of ‘Israelis’ accused of cooperating with Iran in exchange for money, including carrying out tasks such as photographing civilian and military sites.
