The official said the unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted after it came too close to the carrier, describing the action as a defensive measure to protect US forces.

A spokesperson for the US Central Command said American forces shot down an Iranian drone after it approached a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea.

The spokesperson said that the drone was intercepted “in self-defense and to protect our forces,” identifying it as a Shahed-139 unmanned aerial vehicle.

According to the statement, the aircraft carrier was operating in the Arabian Sea at the time the Iranian drone approached.

Rising tensions at sea

The incident comes as tensions remain high across the Middle East, where US naval assets have been operating to deter potential threats and secure key maritime routes.

Iran has not publicly commented on the report, and the US military has released few operational details about the encounter.

US forces have repeatedly said they will respond to any actions that endanger their personnel or assets in international waters.
