Flames engulf a bazaar in western Tehran, with the massive fire visible across large parts of the capital.
A massive fire broke out at a bazaar in western Tehran on Tuesday, state media reported, with the cause of the blaze still unclear.
The fire erupted at a local market in the Jannat Abad neighborhood, an area densely packed with stalls and multi-use commercial shops. Tehran’s fire department said the blaze spread across an area of about 2,000 square meters.
“The fire is extensive, to the extent that it is visible from various parts of Tehran,” fire department spokesman Jalal Maleki told state television.
Authorities deployed five fire stations to the scene, supported by water tankers and oxygen cylinders, in an effort to contain the flames. Fire officials said there were no confirmed figures yet regarding possible casualties resulting from the incident.
Series of recent incidents
The blaze comes amid a string of recent incidents across Iran. Two days earlier, a gas cylinder explosion shook Al-Moallem Street in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, while another fire broke out in a residential building in Ahvaz. 'Israeli' officials have denied any involvement in those incidents.
The latest fire coincides with heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, following repeated threats by U.S. President Donald Trump of possible military action.
Diplomatic backdrop
Despite the recent incidents, observers point to signs of a tentative diplomatic opening, with direct talks between Iran and the United States expected to begin in Istanbul on Friday, February 6, 2026.
International circles hope the negotiations will help ease regional tensions. However, the recurrence of what some describe as “mysterious” fires and explosions inside Iran continues to raise questions over whether they stem from technical failures or organized sabotage.
