King Abdullah II of Jordan met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi on Sunday in Cairo to discuss strengthening Arab cooperation and restoring stability across the region.

Focus on Palestinian Issue and Gaza

During bilateral and expanded talks at the Itihadiya Palace, both leaders emphasized the importance of continued coordination on shared interests, particularly the Palestinian cause. They called for full implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian aid, and rapid initiation of early recovery and reconstruction in the territory. King Abdullah highlighted Egypt’s pivotal mediation role in reaching the ceasefire agreement.

On the West Bank, the leaders reaffirmed Jordan’s and Egypt’s firm rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people and condemned violations and arbitrary practices against them. King Abdullah also warned of the consequences of continued attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Regional Stability and Cooperation

The discussions extended to broader regional issues, with both leaders stressing the need to reduce tensions, resolve crises peacefully, respect national sovereignty, and safeguard the rights and resources of peoples.

King Abdullah and President Sisi also reviewed the depth of Jordanian-Egyptian relations and agreed on expanding cooperation across sectors, particularly through the joint Jordan-Egyptian Higher Committee. President Sisi underscored the special brotherly ties between the two nations and the importance of strengthening them to serve the aspirations of both peoples.

Delegations and Reception

The meeting was attended by Jordanian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi and King Abdullah’s Chief of Office, Engineer Alaa Batayneh. King Abdullah was received and seen off at Cairo International Airport by President Sisi.
