  • UN warns West Bank faces worst humanitarian crisis since 1967, with tens of thousands displaced.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has warned that the occupied West Bank is facing its most severe humanitarian crisis since 1967, driven by the displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians from their homes in refugee camps.

“One year since the start of Israel’s ‘Iron Wall’ military operation, 33,000 people remain forcibly displaced from Palestine refugee camps in the north,” Lazzarini said in remarks shared on social media on Friday.

He added that ongoing demolitions by 'Israeli' forces are further reducing the chances for these communities to recover.

Rising poverty and urgent needs

“Teams on the ground are assisting newly displaced Palestine refugees who have been pushed deeper into poverty and have no viable alternatives for healthcare, education, and welfare,” the UNRWA chief said.

Call for international support

Lazzarini emphasized that continued political and financial support from member states is essential for UNRWA to maintain aid operations for the affected communities.

“The occupied West Bank is in the grip of its most severe humanitarian crisis since 1967,” he stressed, highlighting the urgent need for global attention and assistance.
