Jordanian universities suspend in-person classes, delay exams ahead of storm

Academic institutions across the Kingdom implemented emergency protocols on Monday in response to a winter storm bringing polar air and heavy rain to Jordan.
The University of Jordan (UJ) led the announcements, shifting all Tuesday classes to remote learning and rescheduling all examinations for Tuesday to Jan. 27.

Impact on Northern and Central Institutions
In Irbid, Yarmouk University President announced that Tuesday’s exams will be moved to Sunday, Feb. 1. Lectures will be conducted remotely, and administrative staff are directed to report for duty at 10:30 AM.
Similarly, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) President postponed Tuesday’s exams until further notice and delayed staff working hours until 10:00 AM.
In the private sector, the Applied Science Private University suspended classes, moving Tuesday’s exams to Jan. 25 while coordinating master’s thesis defenses remotely.
National Wave of Postponements
Several other institutions in central and northern Jordan joined the emergency measures:
- Hashemite University: Exams rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 25.
- Irbid National University & Jerash University: Campus closed; exams moved to Thursday, Jan. 15.
- Jadara University: Exams postponed to Thursday, Jan. 29.
- Al al-Bayt University (Mafraq): Classes suspended; exams moved to Sunday, Jan. 25.
In the southern governorates, which are bracing for high winds and potential frost, Tafila Technical University delayed staff work until 10:00 AM and rescheduled exams for Saturday, Jan. 17.
Al-Hussein Bin Talal University in Ma’an also announced a suspension of staff work and moved exams to Sunday, Jan. 25.
