The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) reported Saturday that the kingdom is set for a big transition in weather conditions over the next 96 hours, as a cold polar front approaches.

The fluctuations begin Sunday with a noticeable rise in temperatures, expected to climb 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above the annual average.

During the day, conditions will remain relatively cool in the highlands and pleasant in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba.

However, officials warned of a sharp drop in visibility during the morning hours due to dense fog and a significant risk of frost formation overnight in high-altitude mountainous areas.

Monday and Tuesday: Cyprus Depression and Polar Air

The stability is expected to end Monday night as the kingdom comes under the influence of a depression centered over Cyprus, accompanied by an extremely cold air mass.

Conditions will turn cloudy with heavy rain showers forecast for northern and central Jordan. The JMD stated that the rain may be accompanied by thunder, hail, and active winds with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h.

As the cold mass deepens on Tuesday, temperatures are projected to plummet. Heavy winter conditions will prevail, with light snow mixed with rain expected over high mountain peaks. Limited snow accumulations remain possible over the southern Shara Mountains, while sandstorms may persist in the Badia regions.

Wednesday: Gradual Recession and Safety Recommendations

The depression is expected to recede gradually on Wednesday. However, the chance for light rain showers remains until the evening before the atmosphere stabilizes. Despite the clearing skies, meteorologists emphasized that extreme cold will persist into Wednesday night.

Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution on the roads due to fog and slippery surfaces, to use heating equipment safely, and to protect agricultural crops from the anticipated frost.
