His Majesty King Abdullah II posted on X: “At today’s Jordan-EU Summit, we took a major step in advancing our strategic partnership and unleashing new avenues for cooperation. Looking forward to working with @eucopresident Costa and President @vonderleyen to build on these outcomes in service of our peoples and regions.”
Additionally, President von der Leyen praised Jordan’s pivotal role in the Middle East, describing it as a “cornerstone of regional stability”. In a tweet on her official X account, she thanked His Majesty King Abdullah II for the warm hospitality during the first-ever summit of its kind between Jordan and the EU.
She emphasized that Jordan is a long-term partner of Europe, noting that both sides are working to turn shared commitments into tangible actions. Von der Leyen added that these efforts aim to reinforce stability and resilience while promoting shared prosperity for the two friendly peoples.
EU relations with Jordan
Leaders will review the implementation of the EU-Jordan strategic and comprehensive partnership agreed in January 2025.
The partnership, supported by a €3 billion financial and investment package for 2025-2027, covers five key areas of common interest:
- political relations and regional cooperation
- security and defence
- economic resilience, trade and investment
- human capital
- migration, and protection and support for refugees
The partnership focuses on supporting Jordan's stability amid extraordinary geopolitical challenges, on furthering political, economic and administrative modernisation, and on fostering economic resilience.
The partnership builds on a strong relationship grounded in the 2002 association agreement and in the EU-Jordan partnership priorities (2021-2027).
