The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced the return of the body of citizen Abdulmutallab Al-Qaisi to his family for burial in Jordan.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali, confirmed that the ministry coordinated with relevant authorities to secure the release and transfer of Al-Qaisi’s body through the King Hussein Bridge, handing it over to his relatives for burial.
Al-Qaisi’s family received the body on Thursday after it had been held by the 'Israeli' army for three months.
He was laid to rest at Marj Al-Hamam cemetery in Amman.
Al-Qaisi’s son, Yousef Abdulmutallab Al-Qaisi, stated that the funeral procession took place at Wadi Al-Shita cemetery during dawn prayers on Thursday, attended by family members and citizens. Yousef shared on social media: “Praise be to God, we have received my father’s body. It will be buried in Wadi Al-Shita and prayers will be held at dawn.”
The family noted that official authorities contacted them late Wednesday night to facilitate the handover and burial, ending months of anguish caused by the prolonged detention of the body.
The Israeli Occupation had detained Al-Qaisi’s body since his September attack at the West Bank-Jordan Allenby Crossing, which resulted in the death of two 'Israeli' soldiers.
The prolonged holding of bodies is part of a broader policy that denies families the right to conduct proper funerals and mourning ceremonies.
