'Israeli' army said Monday it carried out strikes on several Hezbollah-linked sites in the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon, reporting casualties as part of what it described as a new escalation aimed at pressuring the group to abandon its weapons arsenal.

Spokesperson Avichay Adraee said on X that forces targeted a number of Hezbollah members in the Sidon area.

Lebanese media reported that the initial toll from the strikes was three martyrs. Tel Aviv insists disarmament of the group is a prerequisite for any lasting peace in Lebanon.

'Israel' has questioned the Lebanese government’s ability to enforce disarmament, despite pledges to begin steps in the south. Hezbollah has repeatedly rejected calls to relinquish its weapons, complicating the political and security landscape.

In Washington, calls for escalation gained support. United States Senator Lindsey Graham urged renewed military action against Hezbollah during a visit Sunday, saying that refusal to disarm could trigger joint operations aimed at eliminating its military presence.
