  • Heavy and widespread rainfall is forecast to intensify during Thursday evening and night across Jordan, with the northern and parts of the southern regions most affected, posing a high risk of flash floods and rising water levels.
  • The low-pressure system is expected to ease on Friday, leading to a relatively stable Saturday, though warnings remain active for dense fog over highlands and the potential for severe thunderstorms during the peak of the system.

Jordan is currently being affected by a low-pressure system, with the coming hours expected to bring a rapid and noticeable development in weather conditions, according forecasters at ArabiaWeather.

ArabiaWeather told Roya that the pause in rainfall overnight was anticipated. However, the system's impact will gradually return as its center moves slowly over the eastern Mediterranean toward the Kingdom.

By late Thursday afternoon and evening, rain clouds will noticeably increase, as satellite images show, leading to heavy, widespread rainfall during Thursday night.

Flood Warning Issued for Thursday Night

Rain will gradually intensify throughout Thursday evening and night, becoming heavy in many areas. This intensity is expected to raise water levels on roads and increase the risk of flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions.

The northern region of the Kingdom will be most exposed to the heavy rainfall, along with parts of the southern areas, though precipitation is expected to extend across most of the Kingdom at varying levels, with the potential for localized flooding.

The low-pressure system began affecting Jordan on Wednesday, centered south of Cyprus, bringing pure winter conditions characterized by a significant drop in temperatures and thundery rainfall that extended as far south as Aqaba.

Weather forecasts indicate the possibility of very heavy rainfall in specific areas of the southern Kingdom, particularly the Southern Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, Wadi Araba, and reaching Aqaba, with chances of thunderstorms, lightning, and hail in some locations.

Weather Eases Friday, Stabilizes Saturday

ArabiaWeather indicated that clouds will gradually decrease on Friday, with rainfall stopping. Saturday is expected to see relative stability in the weather, despite continued cold temperatures.

Temperatures on Thursday and Friday will be cold and below average, with a second peak of the low-pressure system on Thursday evening bringing excellent amounts of rain. There is also a remaining chance for scattered showers on Sunday.

The weather consultant issued a warning regarding the intensity of the rain during the evening and night hours, and the accompanying dangers of rising water levels and flash floods in low-lying areas, in addition to the risk of thunderstorms.

ArabiaWeather also warned of the expectation of dense fog forming over the highlands, which could significantly reduce visibility, potentially leading to near-zero visibility, necessitating extreme caution while driving and urging the public to wear warm, appropriate clothing for the rainy weather.
