  • UN denounces killing of two Palestinians in Jenin.
  • Incident described as an “apparent summary execution.”
  • UN calls for independent and effective investigations.

The United Nations voiced strong criticism on Friday after two Palestinian men were shot and killed by 'Israeli' forces in the occupied West Bank, describing the incident as an “apparent summary execution.”

UN human rights office spokesperson Jeremy Laurence told reporters in Geneva: “We are appalled at the brazen killing by Israeli border police yesterday of two Palestinian men in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, in yet another apparent summary execution.”

Laurence urged authorities to ensure “independent, prompt and effective investigations into the killings of Palestinians,” emphasizing repeated concerns over the use of lethal force by 'Israeli' units during operations in the West Bank.

The two men were unarmed and appeared to be surrendering when they were shot, according to initial rights monitoring reports, reigniting international scrutiny of 'Israel’s' conduct during its operations in Palestinian areas.

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) said Thursday it is reviewing the incident.

“The forces entered the area, encircled a structure in which the suspects were located, and initiated a surrender procedure that lasted several hours,” the military and police say, adding that after using heavy machinery on the structure, the two suspects exited.

“After they exited the building, shots were fired at the wanted persons,” the statement says.

The IOF and police say that the “incident is under review by the commanders on the ground, and will be transferred to the relevant authorities for examination.”

The Palestinian Authority’s General Authority for Civil Affairs identifies the two men seen in the footage as 26-year-old Mahmoud Qassem Abdallah and 37-year-old Youssef Asasa.

It added that their bodies were detained by ‘Israeli’ security forces.
