  • The ‘Israeli’ military claimed to have killed 13 Hamas "terrorists" in an air strike on the Ain al-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp on Tuesday.
  • Hamas strongly rejected the claim, stating the strike was a "horrific massacre" that hit an open sports field where several unarmed juveniles were playing soccer.

The’ Israeli’ military claimed Friday that it killed "13 Hamas terrorists" in an air strike conducted Tuesday on the Ain al-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese authorities had previously announced 13 people were killed in the same strike.

Claims of a Senior Figure

In a statement, the ‘Israeli’ military claimed: "Thirteen Hamas terrorists were eliminated" in the strike.

The army claimed one of the casualties is Jawad Sidawi, who was allegedly “involved in training terrorists in order to carry out terror attacks from Lebanese territory against IDF troops and the State of Israel.”

Hamas Disputes Target and Casualties

Hamas strongly denied the ‘Israeli’ narrative. Shortly after the strike on Tuesday, the ‘Israeli’ military claimed it was targeting "terrorists operating in a Hamas training compound."

Hamas issued a statement on Tuesday emphasizing that "there are no military installations" in the Palestinian camps in southern Lebanon, describing the ‘Israeli’ claim of hitting a training site as "falsehood and lies."

The organization released a message with photos of 13 young men and juveniles on its Telegram channel Thursday, describing the strike as a "horrific massacre that resulted in the death of several innocent civilian martyrs."

Hamas asserted that the target was an "open sports field frequented by juveniles from the camp," and that those struck were a group of young men playing soccer in a small hangar inside the camp.

Bisan Secondary School in the Ain al-Helweh camp issued its own statement on Facebook mourning two of its students, Amjad Khashan and Ibrahim Kadoura, confirming they were killed in the ‘Israeli’ strike and including photos of the two juveniles.

Warning on Disarmament

The ‘Israeli’ military continued claiming on Friday that Lebanon "pledged to disarm armed factions in the Palestinian camps, but terrorist organizations continue to maliciously exploit the population and civilian infrastructure”.
