Two Palestinian teenagers were killed overnight after coming under 'Israeli' fire in the town of Kufr Aqab, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
In a statement on Friday, the ministry confirmed that "the young man Amr Khaled Ahmed Al-Marbou (18) and the boy Sami Ibrahim Sami Mashayekh (16) were martyred by occupation forces gunfire in the town of Kufr Aqab near Ramallah."
Neither the 'Israeli' army nor police, who share jurisdiction in the area, issued an immediate comment despite requests for a response.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said its medics transported two injured individuals from the town during the night. One had suffered a “very serious live bullet injury,” while the second sustained “a live bullet injury to the chest.”
Witness Adi al-Shurfa, described as a close friend of Al-Marbou, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the teens were standing on the street during confrontations between 'Israeli' forces and local residents when shots were fired. He said Al-Marbou was struck “in the chest, in the heart,” collapsing instantly. Shurfa insisted the teens were not throwing stones or participating in the clashes when they were hit.
Although Kufr Aqab is officially classified as part of 'Israeli'-annexed East Jerusalem, it sits on the Palestinian side of the separation barrier. As a result, the town falls into an administrative void, receiving neither effective municipal services from Jerusalem nor consistent support from neighboring Palestinian cities such as Ramallah or Al-Bireh.
