British actor and comedian John Cleese has refuted claims that he canceled his upcoming performances in 'Israel' due to pressure from boycott groups, stating instead that the shows have been postponed for safety reasons.
In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, Cleese said, “Contrary to the claims made by Alon Yurik Productions last night — which were subsequently reported, I am having to reschedule my shows in Israel planned for later this month following advice about safety. At 86, that is obviously all important.”

He added that he intends to rearrange the shows as soon as possible and offered to perform without receiving any fee, expressing his affection for the 'Israeli' audience and apologizing to ticket-holders for the inconvenience.
The clarification comes after the Israeli production company Alon Yurik Productions had stated on Sunday that Cleese had “succumbed to threats from BDS organisations,” a claim the comedian firmly denied.
