  • European football associations are pushing for the suspension of ‘Israel’ from FIFA and UEFA competitions over alleged violations of regulations and anti-racism policies.

‘Israel’ faces renewed threat of exclusion from international football competitions as several European football associations push to suspend its national teams and clubs from FIFA and UEFA tournaments. This escalation comes despite the ongoing fragile ceasefire in Gaza.

Ireland is leading a coalition of associations calling for a freeze on 'Israeli' football activity, citing long-standing violations of FIFA rules. These include operating clubs in the occupied West Bank and failing to implement effective anti-racism policies.

The Palestinian Authority previously raised these concerns at the FIFA congress in Thailand in May 2024, accusing ‘Israel’ of obstructing Palestinian football. FIFA President Gianni Infantino referred the matter to a committee of experts, the results of which the coalition now demands be made public.

The current campaign operates on two fronts: increasing pressure on FIFA and lobbying UEFA directly, with Ireland backed by Norway, Slovenia, Turkey, and other nations. A formal request for immediate suspension could be submitted by Monday, potentially prompting an emergency UEFA executive session.

Meanwhile, 'Israeli' Football Association President, Moshe "Shino" Zuares, is attempting to prevent the issue from reaching a vote, reportedly warning that a vote would almost certainly result in suspension.
