- Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, announced it will hand over the remains of an additional deceased captive on Friday night as part of the cease-fire agreement.
- The body was found in the city of Khan Younis, bringing the total number of deceased captives returned by Hamas to 23.
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced it will deliver the remains of an additional deceased captive on Friday as part of the implementation of the cease-fire with ‘Israel’.
In a statement posted on Telegram, Al-Qassam, alongside the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, said they would hand over the "body of one of the enemy's captives" after it was found Friday in the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
The handover is scheduled to take place at 9 PM Gaza time (7 PM GMT).
Captive Count
When the cease-fire went into effect on Oct. 10, Hamas was holding 48 captives in Gaza: 20 who were alive and 28 who were deceased.
Since then, Hamas has delivered all the living captives.
Of the 28 bodies of deceased captives Hamas agreed to return under the agreement, the group has so far returned 22 bodies (19 ‘Israelis’, one Thai, one Nepali, and one Tanzanian).
With the body being handed over Friday, the total number of returned remains will reach 23.
Accusations of Delay
‘Israel’ has previously accused Hamas of slowing the process of returning the remains of the dead captives. Hamas, however, has attributed the slow pace to the difficulty of locating numerous bodies buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings in the territory.
Hamas has reiterated its call for mediators and the Red Cross to supply it with the necessary equipment and personnel to excavate the bodies.
