Jordan has secured a seat on the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the 2025–2029 term. The election took place during the 43rd General Conference of UNESCO in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Fuad Al-Majali, highlighted that Jordan’s re-election for the third consecutive term since 2017 reflects international recognition of the country’s constructive role within UNESCO. He emphasized that Jordan remains committed to strengthening international cooperation in education, culture, and science.
Promoting Education, Heritage, and Youth Empowerment
Al-Majali noted that Jordan will continue collaborating with member states to enhance quality education, protect cultural heritage, empower youth and women, and leverage science for sustainable development.
He added that UNESCO membership provides an effective platform for Jordan to uphold its historical custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem and to safeguard the city’s spiritual and cultural heritage against attempts to alter its historical and legal character.
Al-Majali also expressed Jordan’s gratitude to member states for their votes, underscoring global confidence in the kingdom’s moderate policies, open diplomacy, and partnerships with the United Nations and its affiliated organizations.
