Edan Alexander, an Israeli Occupation Forces soldier who was released from Hamas's captivity back in May, was promoted today by the chief of the Personnel Directorate, the 'Israeli' military announced.

Last month, Alexander expressed his desire to resume his service in the IOF, less than six months of his release.

During a military conference, Personnel Directorate chief Maj. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa awarded Alexander the rank of sergeant first class, recognizing his dedication and resilience.

Alexander, 21, originally came to 'Israel' from the United States to serve as a lone soldier in the Golani Brigade. He was taken into captivity from an army post near the border settlement of Nirim on October 7, 2023.

Hamas has released Edan back in May after engaging in direct talks with the United States towards securing a ceasefire in the war-ravaged enclave and getting aid flowing again to a suffering Palestinian population.

The Palestinian group then released a statement saying: “Israeli soldier Edan Alexander, a dual US national, will be released as part of the steps taken towards a ceasefire, reopen the crossings, and deliver aid and relief to our people in the Gaza Strip”.
