Hamas issues new statement denying involvement in Rafah shooting
Hamas has denied any involvement in the recent shooting incident in Rafah and reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement.
In a statement, the group condemned 'Israeli' airstrikes on Gaza as a “criminal attack” and a violation of the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire brokered under the auspices of US President Donald Trump.
"The recent attack is merely an extension of a series of violations carried out by the Israeli occupation over the past few days, resulting in deaths and casualties, as well as the continued closure of the Rafah border." Hamas said, calling on mediators to pressure 'Israel' to halt its escalation and respect the terms of the ceasefire.
The statement comes as tensions escalate in Gaza. On Tuesday evening, 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the military to carry out “strong and immediate strikes” following security consultations. 'Israel' claimed “serious violations” of the ceasefire by Hamas, including the alleged firing that injured an 'Israeli' soldier in Rafah. Reports indicate that Hamas operatives fired from a tunnel, launching anti-tank projectiles at 'Israeli' forces.
Later, the 'Israeli' military conducted at least three airstrikes targeting buildings and tunnel openings deemed threats to its forces. Officials warned that more strikes could follow if violations continue.
