Viral post on X raises questions on suspected bias in content moderation

A recent experiment on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has sparked debate over potential inconsistencies in its content moderation policies, particularly regarding hateful conduct.

On October 20, user @propandco posted a series of messages calling to "deport all" various ethnic and religious groups, including white people, Hispanics, Blacks, Muslims, and Jews.

While the first four posts remained unrestricted, the one targeting Jews was flagged with limited visibility for potentially violating X's rules against hateful conduct.

The demonstration quickly went viral after @propandco compiled the results into a screenshot and shared it with the caption: "You can deport everyone, including white people, but you cannot deport the Jews ."

As of the time of writing, the post has garnered over 37,000 likes, 7,700 reposts, and nearly 2.5 million views, igniting discussions about free speech, censorship, and perceived favoritism on the platform owned by Elon Musk.

@propandco's posts were identical in structure, each simply stating "Deport all [group]."

The unrestricted posts received minimal engagement initially, but the "Deport all Jews" variant was immediately limited, displaying a blue information icon warning of a possible violation.

This incident comes amid ongoing scrutiny of X's moderation practices. Jewish organizations have previously accused the platform of allowing antisemitic content to flourish, leading some groups to leave X earlier this year.

In contrast, free speech advocates, including Musk himself, have defended relaxed rules to foster open dialogue, though Musk has faced backlash for endorsing controversial views in the past.
