Spain’s Sanchez says truce does not mean impunity for Gaza “genocide”
- Sanchez urged accountability for Gaza "genocide," warning that ceasefire cannot mean impunity.
- Spain maintains arms embargo on 'Israel' and signals support for future peace and reconstruction efforts.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Tuesday stressed that the ceasefire between Hamas and ‘Israel’ must not come at the cost of accountability for the "genocide" in Gaza.
"Peace cannot mean forgetting; it cannot mean impunity," the left-wing socialist minister said in an interview.

"Those who were key actors in the genocide perpetrated in Gaza must answer to justice, there can be no impunity," he added when asked about potential legal action against ‘Israeli’ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Spain, a leading European critic of ‘Israel’s’ Gaza offensive, announced in September that its prosecutor would investigate "serious violations" of human rights in coordination with the International Criminal Court (ICC), which has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant.
After attending a Gaza summit in Egypt on Monday, Sanchez reiterated that Spain’s arms embargo on shipments to and from ‘Israel’ will remain.
"We will maintain this embargo until the process is consolidated and definitively moves towards peace," he said.
Sanchez also indicated that Spain could participate in future efforts to support peace and aid reconstruction in Gaza.
