Gazan returns home to find note, 50 shekels left by Hamas member

As Palestinians began returning to their homes in northern Gaza following the ceasefire, many were met with scenes of widespread devastation.

One man who returned to his house reportedly found a 50-shekel note and a handwritten message left by a fighter, stating: “This is the price of the slippers we took. We ask for your forgiveness.”

The note, shared widely online, has sparked discussion about the realities of war, ethics in conflict, and the personal toll the aggression has left behind.

Meanwhile, thousands continue to make their way back toward Gaza City and Khan Younis, with most finding their homes either damaged or completely destroyed.

The ceasefire, brokered with international mediation, brought an end to one of the deadliest war in the history of Gaza, during which over 60,000 Palestinians were killed by 'Israeli' forces, most of whom were women and children, and large parts of Gaza were reduced to rubble.

The ceasefire also opened the door to a major prisoner exchange between Hamas and ‘Israel’, and allowed displaced residents to begin returning to their homes, most of which were left in ruins.
