Palestinian factions hail Gaza ceasefire as 'national achievement'
In a joint press statement, the three major Palestinian factions, Hamas, the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), saluted the Palestinian people for their steadfastness in Gaza as the first phase of a ceasefire agreement was announced.
The statement praised the resilience of Gaza’s civilians, including children, women, the elderly, displaced families, medical teams, journalists, and volunteers, who have endured intense bombardment, displacement, and the destruction of daily life. The factions described this perseverance as a “living symbol of the Palestinian people’s unbreakable will” and a testament to their strength in the face of the 'Israeli' military’s destructive campaigns.
The factions highlighted the remarkable efforts of Palestinian resistance fighters, noting their ability to inflict significant losses on 'Israeli' forces and maintain morale despite two years of conflict. The statement also honored allied supporters in Yemen, Lebanon, Iran, and Iraq for their solidarity.
The press release acknowledged the role of international mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, and called on the United States and other intermediaries to ensure 'Israel' adheres to all terms of the agreement. The factions emphasized the importance of continued global solidarity with Gaza, describing worldwide support as a crucial moral boost and a rebuke to 'Israeli' policies.
Despite 'Israeli' attempts to derail the negotiation process, the Palestinian negotiating team has secured an agreement implementing the first stage of the ceasefire. The factions described this as a partial victory that protects civilians, halts the ongoing offensive, and allows for the potential release of Palestinian detainees, while affirming their commitment to securing the freedom of all detainees in 'Israeli' custody.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the factions’ dedication to ending the blockade, ensuring the withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces, and upholding the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.
