An 11-year-old boy was injured on Sunday after being attacked by stray dogs in one of Mafraq Governorate’s neighborhoods.

A medical source at Mafraq Governmental Hospital confirmed that the boy was admitted to the surgery department and received necessary treatment. His condition is reportedly stable.

The incident underscores alarming statistics recently shared by Mafraq Governor Firas Abu Al-Ghanam, who told Roya that the governorate recorded 96 cases of stray dog bites in just the past 30 days. He described the situation as “a real danger to the people of the governorate.”

Governor Abu Al-Ghanam said he had urgently contacted the Ministry of Local Administration and the relevant municipalities, calling for comprehensive and immediate measures to control the stray dog population in streets and residential areas. He emphasized that children remain the most vulnerable to these attacks.

Residents in various parts of Mafraq have repeatedly expressed their concern, living in fear for their children’s safety. They are urging authorities to take decisive action to end the ongoing threat posed by stray dogs.
