Joint statement by Arab, Muslim Leaders following meeting with Trump
A high-level, multi-party summit took place Teusday, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly, bringing together US President Donald J. Trump and leaders from eight Arab countries and member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The meeting was co-hosted by President Trump and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, with the participation of His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey, President Joko Widodo of Indonesia, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, Prime Minister Mustafa Kamal Madbouly of Egypt, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, and His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia.
In their statement issued after the meeting, the leaders expressed their gratitude to President Trump for convening this important dialogue and voiced deep concern over the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, including massive human losses and the broader regional implications for the Islamic world.”
They reaffirmed their collective rejection of forced displacement and stressed the importance of allowing the safe return of those who had left.
The leaders emphasized the urgent need to end hostilities and implement an immediate ceasefire to secure the release of captives and enable the delivery of adequate humanitarian assistance, identifying these steps as essential for achieving a just and lasting peace.
Participants reiterated their commitment to cooperating with President Trump, highlighting the significance of his leadership in advancing peace efforts and opening avenues for a stable, long-term resolution. The summit also addressed the need for a detailed plan to ensure stability in the West Bank and protect the holy sites in Jerusalem, alongside supporting Palestinian Authority reform initiatives.
The statement underscored the necessity of a comprehensive Gaza reconstruction plan, coordinated by Arab states and the OIC, supported by international assistance to ensure the success of recovery projects and the rebuilding of civilian life in the Gaza Strip.
The leaders concluded by affirming that the meeting marks the beginning of a path toward sustained regional peace and cooperation, emphasizing the need to maintain momentum to secure a future characterized by stability, security, and prosperity.
