President Donald Trump is set to meet a group of Arab and Muslim leaders on Tuesday on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly to present his post-war plan for Gaza, two Arab officials told Axios.

The session, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET, comes just days before Trump is due to host 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on September 29. It also coincides with a wave of recognition of the State of Palestine by Western governments and 'Israeli' threats to retaliate by annexing parts of the occupied West Bank. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Invitations sent

According to the officials, leaders from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey have been invited. The White House hopes these states will play a role in a post-war arrangement for Gaza, potentially including the deployment of troops in a stabilization force to replace 'Israeli' forces.

Arab leaders, however, are expected to urge Trump to press Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza and to shelve annexation plans. The UAE has already warned Washington that any 'Israeli' move to annex parts of the West Bank could unravel the Abraham Accords, Trump’s signature foreign policy achievement during his first term.

Wider Gulf concerns

Sources said Trump is also expected to convene a separate meeting on Tuesday with Gulf leaders from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait. A key focus will be regional unease following the first-ever 'Israeli' strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar.

Arab officials said Gulf states are seeking assurances from the Trump administration that such attacks will not be repeated.
