Trump described the 31-year-old Kirk as a "great American" who was "heinously assassinated for speaking his mind".

He revealed that he once told Kirk, "I think you have a good shot someday at being President".

Trump also mentioned his appreciation for condolences offered by British citizens and called for the UK and US to collaborate in a movement to defend "glorious traditions of freedom on both sides of the Atlantic".

The killing occurred on Wednesday, September 10, when Kirk was fatally shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University.

A 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, was arrested in connection with the crime, and prosecutors believe he targeted Kirk due to his politics.

Kirk was a prominent ally of Trump and a key figure in the "Make America Great Again" movement.

UK Prime Minister Starmer also commented on the event, condemning the killing as "shocking".
