The Palestinian Prisoner's Society issued a new briefing on the conditions of detainees in ‘Israeli’ prisons, based on visits conducted during the first half of September 2025.

The visits covered several facilities, including Negev, Megiddo, Ramle, Ofer, Shatta, Gilboa, and Damon, as well as prisons holding child and female detainees.

Testimonies highlighted several alarming issues, most notably the widespread outbreak of scabies in Negev and Ofer prisons, alongside a surge in repression measures, and the use of weapons such as electric stun devices and rubber bullets against detainees.

Political prisoners also reported that food portions are insufficient even for small children, often containing bird droppings or bearing the footprints of guards.

Additionally, reports pointed out to severe shortages of clothing and hygiene items, with some unable to change their clothes for up to six months.

Lighting in cells is frequently cut for long periods, and bathing is only allowed during yard time, which guards often restrict.

Negev prison in particular, one of the largest detention facilities, was described as a central site for repression, torture, and disease outbreaks, contributing to the deaths of several detainees.

The briefing underscores the urgent need for international attention and accountability regarding the treatment of Palestinian detainees
