Jordan thwarts balloon drug smuggling on eastern border

The Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army announced Thursday that the Eastern Military Region thwarted two separate attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotics using an unprecedented and improvised method.

According to a military source, Border Guard forces, in coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, detected and intercepted two primitive balloons that were being used in separate smuggling attempts across the border.

The source said the troops stationed along the eastern front responded with high professionalism, downing the balloons and seizing their narcotics cargo inside Jordanian territory before they reached their intended destination.

The seized materials were handed over to the competent authorities for legal action.

The Jordanian Armed Forces stressed that they continue to closely monitor evolving smuggling tactics and reaffirmed their readiness to confront anyone who attempts to undermine the security of the country and its citizens, using all available means and capabilities.
