The 'Israeli' military on Tuesday released the name of a fourth soldier who was killed during combat in the northern Gaza Strip yesterday morning.

The Israel Occupation Forces (IOF) confirmed that Lieutenant Matan Abramovitz, 21, from Ganei Tikva, an officer in the Armored Corps’ 52nd Battalion of the 401st Brigade, was killed in action.

Abramovitz fell alongside three other soldiers who were identified on Monday as Staff Sgt. Uri Lamed, Sgt. Amit Arye Regev, and Sgt. Gadi Cotal, all of whom also served in the 52nd Battalion.

The four were killed in a Hamas attack on the outskirts of Gaza City on Monday morning, according to the IOF.

Another soldier from the Nahal Brigade’s 50th Battalion sustained moderate injuries in the incident.

A preliminary military probe, cited by Hebrew media, indicated that three to four Hamas fighters launched the assault at around 6 a.m. near Kafr Jabalia. The attack reportedly occurred after 'Israeli' soldiers had returned to their outpost following overnight operations.

According to the probe, the fighters approached a tank and opened fire at the commander, who was partially exposed. One assailant then hurled an explosive device into the tank, causing the fatal blast that killed the four soldiers.

The deaths bring renewed attention to the intensity of ground clashes in the northern Gaza Strip, as fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas continues.
