  • Benjamin Netanyahu halts gas agreement talks with Egypt.
  • Decision tied to alleged Egyptian violation of 1979 peace treaty.
  • 'Israel' seeks new political and security guarantees before resuming negotiations.

Hebrew media reported that 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered a halt to progress in gas agreement talks with Egypt.

According to reports, this sudden decision will not be reversed without Netanyahu’s personal and final approval, as he has linked the resumption of talks to political conditions tied to the historic peace treaty between the two countries.

Accusation of “Peace Treaty Violation”

Political sources cited by Hebrew media stated that Netanyahu’s decision to suspend the gas deal comes amid claims of Egypt allegedly violating the peace agreement. While the reports did not specify the nature of the alleged breach, they suggest a deep trust crisis that led Netanyahu to use the energy file as leverage.

If confirmed, the accusation marks a serious escalation in relations that have remained stable for decades under the 1979 peace treaty.

New Guarantees Sought Before Talks Resume

Hebrew media also noted that Netanyahu does not intend to proceed with any energy deal with Cairo without what sources describe as “clear Egyptian guarantees to fully uphold its commitments under the peace agreement.”

These demands indicate that Netanyahu is seeking new political and security assurances from Egypt, using the strategic gas deal as a bargaining tool, potentially paving the way for complex negotiations between the two countries in the coming period.
