Actress Hannah Einbinder calls on "Jews of conscience" to reject Zionism
The Jewish-American actress, Hannah Einbinder, has used her social media platform to call on "Jews of conscience" to denounce Zionism, a stance that has ignited controversy and discussion.
The comments came in a story on her Instagram account.
The actress, known for her role in the TV series Hacks, shared a news headline about an 'Israeli' soldier ordering to fire on a crowd waiting for humanitarian aid in Gaza.
In a caption accompanying the image, Einbinder wrote, "Do not look away, your tax dollars fund this you and I are paying for this it is our responsibility as Americans to end this."
In the same story, she directly addressed her Jewish audience, stating, "Jews of conscience, wake up! They are doing this in our name do not just speak about the current Israeli government what an unimaginable cop out this is zionism denounce it."
This is not the first time Einbinder has publicly criticized 'Israeli' government policy and its actions in the Gaza war. In a speech delivered in March 2025 at an awards ceremony for the Human Rights Campaign, Einbinder stated, "As a Jewish person and as an American, I am horrified by the Israeli government's massacre of well over 65,000 Palestinians in Gaza." She also described herself as ashamed and "infuriated that this mass murder is funded by our American tax dollars," adding that "it should not be controversial to say that we should all be against murdering civilians."
Einbinder's comments have drawn both strong support from pro-Palestinian activists and criticism from those who argue that her statements are antisemitic and fail to acknowledge the complexity of the conflict. In an open letter published in the Jewish Journal in March 2025, comedian Elon Gold criticized Einbinder for "promulgating the big lie of the Jewish state as the bad guy," arguing that her "anti-Israel cause" was making Jews less safe.
Einbinder has consistently framed her position not as being against Jewish identity but as being aligned with her Jewish values. In her March 2025 speech, she said her condemnation of 'Israel' was not in spite of her Jewish identity but because of it, stating, "I see it as antithetical to our deepest Jewish traditions to fall in line and not question the actions of a state enacting atrocities in our name."
