'Israel' strikes near Damascus: Conflicting reports on deadly operation
A complex military operation attributed to 'Israeli' forces took place near Damascus on Wednesday night, involving airstrikes and an alleged ground landing.
The attack reportedly killed several Syrian soldiers, while 'Israeli' Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed that his forces operate “wherever Israel’s security requires.”
Conflicting Accounts of the Attack
Details of the operation remain unclear, with varying reports on its sequence and objectives. Syrian sources said that the events began on Tuesday when Syrian forces discovered surveillance and listening devices at the site.
As Syrian troops tried to deal with the equipment, 'Israeli' warplanes launched direct airstrikes, killing seven soldiers.
Meanwhile, Reuters cited two Syrian military sources claiming that an 'Israeli' unit carried out a two-hour ground landing operation in the elevated area before withdrawing.
Strategic Objectives
According to 'Israel’s' Kan channel, the operation at Mount Mana targeted an air defense base “previously used by Iranian forces during Bashar al-Assad’s rule.” Syrian official sources have not confirmed or denied the target’s nature.
Mount Mana is considered a strategic site due to its oversight of wide surrounding areas, making it highly sensitive from a security and military perspective.
'Israeli' Defense Minister’s Statement
Without explicitly confirming the operation, Katz wrote on X on Thursday: “Our forces operate in all theaters day and night for the security of Israel.” He provided no additional details about the nature or location of the operations.
This incident comes amid ongoing tensions in Syria and conflicting reports on 'Israeli' military activity in the region.
