The suspect confessed to strangling the girl during an argument and burying her with the help of a relative, who has also been arrested. The case has been referred to the prosecutor general of the Grand Criminal Court.
Unraveling the Case
According to a Public Security Directorate spokesman, the investigation began yesterday when the girl's body was discovered buried in a relatively-remote area in Amman.
The spokesman said that intensive questioning led to the girl's identification, and a forensic report determined the cause of death to be strangulation by hand.
By gathering information and evidence, investigators narrowed their list of suspects to one individual, who was on the run and had a warrant out for his arrest.
Suicide Attempt Leads to Suspect
In a dramatic turn, the South Amman Police Directorate received a report this morning that a man had attempted to commit suicide by jumping from the second floor of a residential building in the Bayader area. After he was taken to the hospital, he was identified as the primary suspect in the murder case.
The spokesperson added that during his interrogation after receiving medical treatment, the suspect confessed to killing the girl by strangulation following an argument.
He also admitted to burying her body in the remote area with the help of a relative.
The case will now be referred to the prosecutor general of the Grand Criminal Court for the necessary legal procedures.
