Daesh suicide attack targets security checkpoint in eastern Syria
Syrian state news agency SANA reported Friday that Daesh terrorists carried out a suicide attack on a security checkpoint in the city of Mayadin, located in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. The attack ended with the death of the assailants.
According to initial information cited by SANA, Daesh terrorists launched the assault, which resulted in their deaths.
The agency did not report whether members of the checkpoint or civilians were killed or injured in the incident.
Increasing Daesh activity
The attack comes amid a rise in Daesh cell activity across Syria’s desert regions and the eastern countryside, including Deir ez-Zor province.
These cells exploit the region’s difficult terrain to stage surprise attacks and assassinations, primarily targeting military positions, security checkpoints, and government employees in an effort to destabilize areas previously liberated from the group’s control.
