Jordan refused ‘Israeli’ plan to send aid to Syria’s Sweida: Axios

Jordan refused to allow ‘Israeli’ aid for Sweida in south Syria to pass through its territory, according to one US and two ‘Israeli’ officials who spoke to Axios.

The refusal prompted ‘Israel’ to ask the US for help, leading to a new initiative to establish a humanitarian corridor directly between ‘Israel’ and the city of Sweida in southern Syria.

US envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, is scheduled to meet in Paris on Wednesday with ‘Israeli’ Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani to try and reach an agreement, the report by Axios added.

The meeting is only the second such engagement between ‘Israel’ and Syria in 25 years.

The aid is –reportedly– intended for the Druze-majority stronghold of Sweida, where a recent ceasefire has not fully stabilized a volatile situation.

‘Israel’, which has a politically influential Druze community, claims it is committed to protecting Syria's Druze minority.

After Jordan's refusal, the ‘Israeli’ military airdropped humanitarian aid into the area instead.
