Hundreds attend funeral for killed journalists Anas Al-Sharif, Mohammad Qureiqa
On Monday, hundreds of mourners gathered to bid farewell to two of Al Jazeera’s most dedicated correspondents, Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammad Qureiqa, as their bodies were transported from Al-Shifa Medical Complex to their family homes in Gaza.
The funeral procession saw a large turnout of journalists, local residents, and supporters who chanted slogans denouncing the Israeli Occupation’s repeated attacks on media workers. The ceremony reflected the deep respect and sorrow felt across the community for the loss of two voices who tirelessly documented the ongoing conflict.

Mohammad Qureiqa’s last live report aired just minutes before he was fatally targeted, during Al Jazeera’s nightly news roundup where he shared the latest updates from Gaza City.
Meanwhile, Anas Al-Sharif had long been recognized as one of the most prominent reporters in northern Gaza. Since the outbreak of hostilities on October 7, 2023, he has persistently covered the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) actions against Palestinians, including killings, mass destruction, and the humanitarian crisis fueled by starvation and siege.

The deaths of these journalists highlight the extreme dangers faced by media professionals covering the conflict, and the continuing threats posed by violence against press freedom in the region.
Their passing has galvanized calls for greater protection of journalists and intensified international condemnation of attacks on media personnel operating in conflict zones.
