'Israel' claims Hezbollah commander killed in airstrike in East Lebanon

'Israeli' army announced killing a Hezbollah commander operating in the eastern Lebanese province of Bekaa who was claimed to direct combatant cells in Syria.

The army said in a statement that these Syrian-based cells planned to fire rockets towards the Golan Heights, the area which 'Israel' occupied back in 1967.

The operation is one of many airstrikes which the 'Israeli' army has been launching across Lebanon, violating a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah almost daily since November.

Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has been reiterating calls for Hezbollah to disarm and hand their weapons to the army by the end of 2025, a call which the group has been rejecting despite pressure from the United States.

"The resistance is fine, strong and ready to fight for Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence … Hezbollah made heavy sacrifices to defend Lebanon against the Israeli aggression," Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said in a televised speech, refusing to lay down the group's weapons under 'Israeli' fire.

Qassem highlighted that the resistance against 'Israel' should be discussed in national consensus.

Many Hezbollah supporters gathered in Beirut Monday night protesting against the disarmament call.
