VIDEO: Hezbollah rejects timeline to disarm
Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, declared on Tuesday that the group would not agree to any timetable for disarmament while "Israeli aggression" against Lebanon continues, as he stated.
His remarks came during a televised speech at a memorial event held by Hezbollah for an Iranian commander. Qassem rejected any proposal to disarm under current conditions, stating:
“Any proposed timeline to be implemented under the shadow of Israeli aggression is unacceptable to us.”
He further urged the Lebanese state to focus on protecting the country rather than weakening the resistance.
“The state should create plans to confront pressure and threats, and ensure protection, not strip the resistance of its power and capabilities,” he said.
Qassem's statement comes as the Lebanese Cabinet discusses the contentious issue of exclusive state control over arms.
