Sayegh Group backs Palestinian historical drama “Palestine 36”
Sayegh Group proudly announces its financial support for the Palestinian historical film Palestine 36, directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Annemarie Jacir. Under the patronage of Chairman Mr. Michael Sayegh and Roya Media Group CEO Mr. Fares Sayegh, this backing reaffirms the Group’s longstanding commitment to the Palestinian cause and cultural preservation.
Palestine 36 is a powerful drama set during the 1936 Palestinian revolt, an uprising led by farmers against British colonial rule. Taking place on the outskirts of Jerusalem, the film tells an epic story of resistance that was ultimately crushed by 20,000 British soldiers. The film marks the latest work by Jacir, a leading voice in Palestinian and international cinema.

Originally planned to be filmed in Palestine in October 2023, production was relocated to Jordan due to escalating violence and instability in the region. The cast includes a stellar lineup of Arab and international talent, such as Dhafer L’Abidine, Hiam Abbass, and Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons.

Annemarie Jacir is widely recognized as a pioneer of Arab cinema. Her films have premiered at Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, and other major international festivals. She was the first Palestinian female director to make a feature film, Salt of This Sea, which was also her second film to premiere at Cannes. All three of her feature films have been Palestine’s official entries to the Academy Awards.
Her award-winning film When I Saw You received the Best Asian Film prize at the Berlin International Film Festival, earning Jordan its first major international award. Wajib, another standout work, garnered 36 international awards, including honors at Mar del Plata, Dubai, and London film festivals.
Palestine 36 promises to be another landmark in Jacir’s career and is highly anticipated by audiences and critics worldwide.
