Star of TV drama series “Bridgerton” Nicola Coughlan has launched a fundraiser for Gaza, rapidly raising over £500,000 for Medical Aid for Palestinians while directly criticizing the UK government and Labour leader Keir Starmer for their inaction.

Over the past weekend, Coughlan initiated a fundraising drive that quickly amassed over £150,000 within 15 hours, eventually surpassing £500,000, She personally pledged to match donations up to £10,000.

“I, like many of you, am completely horrified by the images coming out of Gaza, watching children being starved to death…watching people being starved to death,” Coughlan said in a video posted on her Instagram.

“The government here in the UK, Keir Starmer, doing nothing about it, ignoring it, acting like it's not happening, not, you know, doing anything. There's just a level of inhumanity in this situation which I have, I have never witnessed the like in my life.”

Coughlan's appeal video was accompanied by a stark message on social media, accusing UK leadership: "Children in Gaza are being starved to death. @keirstarmer @uklabour are allowing it to happen".

"No child, no matter where they are from, their religion, anything should be starved to death by a government. This is a war crime, plain and simple".

Her advocacy is deeply rooted in her Irish heritage and family history, with relatives having lived in Jerusalem in the late 1970s.

Coughlan has consistently used her platform for humanitarian aid, frequently wearing an "Artists4Ceasefire" pin at high-profile events to call for de-escalation and aid delivery.

Public reaction to Coughlan's efforts has been overwhelmingly supportive, with many expressing gratitude for her outspokenness.

Despite warnings that her activism could affect her career, she said: "if you know that you're coming from a place of 'I don't want any innocent people to suffer,' then I'm not worried about people's reactions".
