'Israeli' airstrike targets areas near Sweida
Syrian state news agency SANA reported on Thursday that 'Israeli' warplanes carried out an airstrike near the city of 'Sweida' in southern Syria.
However, 'Israel’s' public broadcaster KAN later reported that the 'Israeli' army denied responsibility for any attack in the province.
Earlier, an 'Israeli' military official announced that Tel Aviv plans to reinforce its forces along the Syrian border in anticipation of potential developments in the region.
The official stated that 'Israel' has given the Syrian army several weeks to withdraw its troops and weapons from Daraa province, amid escalating tensions between the two sides. Tel Aviv insists on the complete disarmament of southern Syria, including Daraa, to prevent any threats to its security from that area.
Intense strikes on Syrian targets
'Israeli' warplanes recently launched heavy air raids on Damascus, targeting the General Staff building in the Syrian capital. The attacks caused partial destruction of the building and resulted in the deaths of three people, according to Syrian authorities.
In addition to Damascus, 'Israeli' forces struck areas around the presidential palace and military targets south of the capital, as well as sites in Sweida. This marks a significant escalation amid regional tensions.
Syria’s stance and impact of the escalation
President Ahmed Al-Sharaa expressed Syria’s desire to avoid a full-scale war with 'Israel', following threats from Tel Aviv to intensify military strikes on Syrian territory.
Al-Sharaa emphasized his efforts to prevent the conflict from escalating into a wider confrontation with Israel, while southern Syria remains militarily tense.
The situation continues to escalate as Israeli threats to carry out further strikes loom if Syrian forces do not withdraw weapons from border areas.
