Rights group files complaint against 'Israeli' sniper who shot civilians during Gaza ceasefire

The Hind Rajab Foundation has launched legal proceedings in Portugal against 'Israeli' sniper Dani Adonya Adega, accusing him of participating in war crimes in Gaza.

The formal complaint, filed by Portuguese human rights lawyer Carmo Afonso, alleges that Adega was involved in targeted killings of civilians during a ceasefire and in the military use of civilian property, both violations of international law.

According to the Foundation, Adega, who served in Gaza with the 8114th Battalion under the 'Israeli' army’s 252nd Division, was recently photographed and geolocated in Lisbon. The 252nd Division, commanded by Brigadier General Yehuda Vach, has been widely condemned for operating the so‑called Netzarim Corridor “kill zone,” where sniper teams reportedly shot civilians, including children, on sight.

Adega himself drew outrage after posting a photo online with the caption, “4 rounds, 0 misses.” The image, which showed him armed and in uniform inside a civilian building, was uploaded during a declared ceasefire in early 2025. Palestinian armed groups had suspended operations at the time, yet over 170 civilians were killed, many by sniper fire.

“This is not only a matter of justice for Gaza—this is a test for Portugal,” a spokesperson for the Hind Rajab Foundation said. “Adega is not hiding. He is walking freely in a European capital after boasting about sniper kills committed during a ceasefire. Portugal must act.”

Under international law, Portugal is obligated to act on cases of alleged war crimes under the principle of universal jurisdiction. The Hind Rajab Foundation is urging authorities to arrest Adega immediately and begin criminal proceedings.

“Our legal pipeline is full, with dozens of ongoing investigations and complaints being prepared for submission across multiple jurisdictions,” the spokesperson said. “Impunity will no longer be the norm. Justice is coming.”
