Jordan submits public encryption keys for electronic passports to ICAO
Jordan officially handed over the public encryption keys for its electronic passport (e-passport) to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) during a formal ceremony held at the ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Canada, Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported.
Representing Jordan at the event, Ambassador Sabah Al Rafie attended the ceremony for the presentation of the Issuing Authority Certification Certificate (CSCA) to ICAO’s Electronic Certification Center, according to a statement from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.
The ceremony was also attended by ICAO’s Deputy Director of Aviation Security and Facilitation, Sylvain Lefoyer.
Minister Sami Smeirat emphasized the importance of this step, explaining that uploading Jordan’s certificate to ICAO’s servers allows member states to access it through the Public Key Directory (PKD). This facilitates the automated verification of Jordanian e-passports, ensuring their authenticity and streamlining border crossing procedures for travelers using these passports.
This milestone represents a key advancement in Jordan’s national efforts to complete its e-passport project and strengthen international travel security.
