Jordanian MP released on bail in Muslim Brotherhood case
Amman’s Prosecutor General on Monday ordered the release of Member of Parliament Hassan Riyatti on bail, following his detention in connection with the case of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood's office in Aqaba.
Earlier today, the Prosecutor General questioned Riyatti regarding the case, according to a source who spoke to the Jordan News Agency (Petra).
Following the interrogation, Riyatti was initially detained and placed under a travel ban pending further investigation.
The detention stems from an incident last Friday when MP Riyatti, along with several other individuals, entered a premises later identified as belonging to the banned Muslim Brotherhood.
They were observed shredding documents and papers inside and attempting to dispose of them by collecting them in black bags.
Security agencies successfully confiscated the damaged papers and thwarted the attempted smuggling of other documents from the location. A subsequent search of the headquarters uncovered additional documents and materials related to the outlawed group.
During his questioning, the Prosecutor General also interrogated MP Riyatti about his alleged dissemination of false news on social media platforms.
Riyatti had claimed that the Public Prosecution had released detainees, despite them being witnesses who had not been arrested or treated as defendants. The interrogation also covered certain phrases and information contained in Riyatti's statement regarding the headquarters case.
